Chillin a la carter style

Sunday I helped Ben count out his penny bank. He's been racking up quite the stash, and was excited about doing math. We saved a few dollars in coins and put back in the pig - the rest will go to the bank.

tough guy face

And for the Bailey fans - We went to the vet last week and he was extremely excited to see her again. Her blood levels were all back to normal and she looks really good!

We will leave on a "NO SCHOOL TOMORROW" happy dance.. Cloudy's happy b/c Ben will be home to play with. Time to pull out the bounce house!

Afternoon sledding

After school today I took the boys sledding. This little fella loves being out in the snow!

snowy sunday

Today we haven't done anything but sit around the house. We've attempted outside, but cranky boys and cold weather are hard to mix.
Inside everyone has pretty much decided to play in their own corners, which leaves me and a sewing machine! I had a couple of projects I wanted to finish and this morning while waiting for everyone else to wake up I found more projects: like bow ties!
For a week I knit Benjamin the coolest fish hat and he wants nothing to do with it. I sew him a bow tie in 15 minutes and he is stoked to wear it to school.

Imagination and Confusion

A few short stories of Ben's day.

1) At school they were asked to close their eyes and use their imagination then draw what they dreamed up. He came home with this: A picture of him climbing a mountain. Aww Right? No. There was someone at the top falling off! He was a little fuzzy with the details of the other person, and if he was trying to save him or not. It was a little unsettling.

2) During quiet time in Kindergarten the teachers turn a movie on to occupy the children. Today was a classic movie: Ben - Have you ever seen Finopio? There's a blue fairy that puts magic on a toy and the toy turns real and asks if he's a real boy. The fairy tells him, The more you lie the more it grows. That's Finopio. (Also known to the rest of us as Pinocchio).

3) On the drive to the gym tonight we talked about why we were seat belts, how they keep us safe, and that it's the law. Ben says he didn't want to fly around in the car, crash through the window in the roof and crack his head on the ground. Because then (his words here) he would have another Peter Potter scar. (a little confused with Harry Potter).

40 degrees in January?!

MLK = 3 day weekend for all.
Lots of sledding a la Carter. Sunday we hit the hill by the Rec Department and Monday we joined some friends at Mahoney; first the hamster tunnels were enjoyed by all (except the little girl the spewed her lunch at the entrance), and then SLEDDING.
These kids LOVE being outside! (not like they have a choice though, right?)

the drama

Oh the drama at our house. Ben usually melts down when we decide not to serve dessert. M.E.L.T.s Down! Like the kid never EVER has dessert. Cloudy - Well, he's an entire different species. As a kid my parents always wished upon me a child just like me. Why they would do that, I have no idea. Torture I suppose. That was an evil thing to do to me. Well, dear parents, if you are reading: You're wish has been granted. Sit back and enjoy the next 19 years.
Proof: Cloudy L.O.V.E.S. brushing his teeth. (And In my family we know THIS is the beginning)
To the point that he walks around with a tooth brush in his hand at the house. After bath time - you HAVE to brush them. In the morning b/f school - we HAVE to brush them. Or just when he decides his gorgeous pearly whites aren't gleaming as they should, we brush. Even in the buff -we brush (him not me).

The boys geeking out on the couch (iphone for dad, remote for Clouds, space schuttle for Ben)

2nd Quarter Report Card

Last week school resumed from holiday break, only to be out this Monday and Tuesday for snow days. This morning as we are rushing out the door trying to make it to school in time, I open Ben's backpack to make sure the contents are correct - and when I pull his folder it's jammed with papers. I take a moment to open the envelope that says sign and return, and to my surprise it's the 2nd Quarter report card. As Pete's curled over the porcelain (he's not feeling well), Cloudy's climbing down the stairs, the dogs are screaming for someone to let them back inside, and Benjamin is in a desperate panic to find shoes, I marvel at the "Advanced" in Math and the Proficient in everything else. He's at the top of his reading grade level, which is really no surprise, but still nice to see!

Ben's first Snow Day

It FINALLY decided to snow here...
This morning - we let Ben sleep in and when he woke up, I took him sledding!
And later we took Cloudy 'sledding' in the front yard. Cloudy screamed at us when we took him back inside. I know - Cloudy screams all the time... but he was seriously torqued and wanted back outside. I was nice enough to oblige him. I loaded him in the Cloudy-pack and convinced the other two fellows to tag along and we went on a nature hike in the woods behind the house. It was beautiful!

Christmas is officially over

Today we finally took down the last of the trees, lights, and decor. Took the boxes to storage and the trees to the city mulch pile. And the house feels a little bigger without 3 trees taking up space.
Not much else going on a la carter.. So here are some random photos:

** Buzz was not posed - we walked in the room and found him like this - Pretty sure that's a wicked sweet Yoga move..

And these are my knitwits. For the past few weeks I've been knitting away at Pete's army of knitwits.
They're kinda funny.
Until next time - keep your hands sanitized and sneeze into your elbow.

it's me again blogger

I know I know .. I already posted today.. but that was for yesterday.. so I'm really just a day behind.. and I guess I need to PROOF read my blogs... are and OUR are not the same but I was in a hurry!

We bought a steak brand at WarEagle and used it for the first time today.
We forgot about the Rose Parade and didn't remember until half way through the Rose Bowl football game.. Which triggered more things we forgot to do on the 1st of January.
1 - our traditional steaks (so we had them today)
2 - my family does black eyed peas and since we forgot last year we already had some in stock.. I guess it's a tradition we just aren't going to keep b/c we forgot again this year.

Ben loves his Bailey...
...and his bounce house
