Christmas leftovers

I think the easel was a big hit with the kids.. this is where they sat most of the day yesterday. One on each side, coloring away.
(Forgive Cloudy's face - he had just enjoyed a Peppermint Oreo)

Last week when Ben was sick, I had him painting and gluing a gingerbread garland.

Merry Christmas blog readers!
We wish you the merriest Christmas and the healthiest year to come.

Today has been spectacular. Benjamin woke up in a bunk bed delivered by Santa overnight! Imagine - going to sleep in one bed, and waking up in another! Santa's pretty specially that way... (I sure know his 'elves' must be tired after finishing assembly around 2am).
This year Cloudy was semi-interested in the gifts under the tree. He was more interested in the gifts his brother had already unwrapped. We foresee a slight problem, everything Ben received Cloudy is playing with - everything Cloudy received Ben is playing with.

Now on to our smoked turkey - or should we eat the brisket?? tough decisions! I say both!

Enjoy the pictures

The Papillion Sump Memorial Library had Story Time with Santa!
(It should have been called Story Time followed by Santa)
We sat and listened to a few books the librarian read, and then SANTA came! All the kids had a chance to talk with him and have pictures taken. Cloudy could have cared less, he saw COOKIES.. Ben on the other hand, sat there for a good five minutes and had a great chat.

In other news, Cloudy has officially out grown the crib. Almost exact same age as Ben was. Tonight we had to move Ben's trundle into Cloud's room and disassemble the crib for the very last time (silent cheering). Hopefully Santa *wink wink* will bring the boys a new bed.

boring sunday

We spent EIGHT hrs baking and decorating cookies today.

We ended up with 9 DOZEN cookies and we decorated 6 dozen and completed our gingerbread house.
The majority of the cookies are for the school teachers.. The PTA requested 180 DOZEN cookies.. 180!!!

Now - after a long day of baking in our jammies, we are sitting back enjoying the Velveteen Rabbit on netflix.

I don't want to grow up...

Day 3 of ben sick - seems to be a strange little bug that he has had 3 other times this year! He's fine as long as we keep him tylenoled-up, and we know exactly when the 3 hrs of medication wears off. Enter stage right whimpering, belly crunching boy.
This afternoon we met up with the Kendalls for Peter Pan at the Rose Theater. Ben really enjoyed it. Cloudy sat through the first half or the first act and then we were out of there. His attention span just isn't there yet.
This evening we started on our Gingerbread house. This is one of Ben's favorite traditions. Tomorrow we will have to finish - but it's a good start (even if there is a can trapped inside).

Pick your battles

Yes he really did go to sleep with a cap on. He tried to scream when I took it away and I figured it was best to let him sleep first and steal it later.

Thank goodness swim lessons are over for a few weeks! Tuesdays were getting rough around here - for me at least.
Yesterday, clouds and I hit the gym early - came home and got cleaned up bf we had to be at Ben's school to read to the class (like we try to do every Tuesday).
We sign in as visitors and wait patiently for the kindergarteners to exit the cafeteria and head to their class. USUALLY we wait for Ben and fall in line with him. But on this day, when the kids start filtering by, Cloudy jumps from his chair and hauls little-chunky-thighs down the hall to the class. When we finally settle in for the days book picks: Mr Wallaby's Christmas tree and Pig Angel's Christmas (Both were great rhyming books.), cloudy decides to sit in bunny holes that didn't belong to him. The kids don't seem to mind though - he's a rockstar in their eyes.
In the afternoon, we lounged around on ben's bed and read more books. Even Bailey AND talus (she's too weak and old to jump on the bed therefore not in the picture) joined us. Bad news after a good day - I found another lump on Bailey.

Today was the Annual Simcik Fish Fry, and the first time in 5yrs we missed it.
So I decided to have our own fish fry... in the blizzard.. (We actually have a Blizzard Warning today).
We baked rum cake, fixed coleslaw, hashbrown casserole, and Peter fried fish in the garage.
The only thing we missed was the great company! Instead, we have these two yahoos running around our house wrecking EVERYTHING. Cloudy loved the fish and broke another plate today. Ben didn't like any of it, but ate it so he could have rum cake.

After we ate (on time - unlike the actual Fish Fry attendees in Davilla) Pete went out to dispose of the oil and found 2 sections of our privacy fence had been blown over and TWO 4x4s broke in half! We braced a second section that will probably end up on the ground if the wind keeps up through tomorrow as predicted. *sigh*

Boys * sheesh

I took that night off for a little girl/yarn time while pete took the boys to swim.
Hopefully this is the only time Cloudy will find himself inside a locker throughout his years.

Ben asked Pete the other day if an Elf was something you could be when you grew up. (*precious kid moment - right!*)

Decorating the tree

Sunday - We put up both our trees and outside lights. But before we could start decorating we had to create the ambiance: first order, Christmas music, second - cookies!! You HAVE to have cookies baking, or freshly baked while decorating a Christmas tree, right?!

Ben decided to defer the first ornament hanging to his daddy, so he could sit back and enjoy some cookie.

He did really well hanging all his ornaments on the same branch

Clouds just sat back in his rocker and plotted his evil plans...
Since we've finished, Cloudy will mysteriously hand us an ornament off the tree.
We are trying to teach him he's not allowed to touch the tree -- only the things under it.
He's very sneaky!
Happy Holidays everyone!
and Happy Birthday Popo!

Oh tiny little Christmas tree.

We went to cut our tree this yr only to find all the tall trees gone. The tree
Farm is very small and will not likely have any decent trees for a few years. But since we were there, and freezing, we let Benjamin pick a tree for the basement. A giant 5.5 ft!! :) he's thrilled!!!

Proud momma moment

Yesterday at Swim - Benjamin swam 25yds (the length of the pool) unassisted.
I knew he could - now he knows it too! I'm hoping next swim session he'll skip a level and go right to Polliwog.
