Rare glimpse

Ben is finally feeling better! He stayed home from school again
today, but around lunch he had yet to vomit for the day and I allowed
him toast. Later I took the boys to the office with me and against
everything I said Geno gave Ben a fudgecicle! Fortunately he kept
that down too.
For now a rare glimpse of me...

Me and My Clouds!

Ben is sick AGAIN! and I HAD a million things tasked out today but we're stuck out the house, and all I hear is "HELP HELP, clean my bucket" UGH.
So Cloudy and I played with my camera remote a bit...

This is how we look after dealing with Ben... :D

For now -- Benisms:

He told me that for Cloudy's birthday HE was going to buy Cloudy a pair of baby Chacos... (SO thankful he relates the word "Chaco" with sandal shoes.)

Pete walks Ben to the front door at school every morning, and every morning there's a little girl (or two) that yell "HI BEN" and Ben apparently just ducks his head and ignores them. Pete tries to tell him to say hi back and asks what the girls names are.. but Ben won't spill... I'm not worried until he starts blushing while his head is ducked.. THEN I think we are in trouble (right Matt?!)

The questions he ask have detailed answers and sometimes I feel like I'm just waisting air. "Is this cow milk? Why do cows have milk? Why do we drink it?"
"Are their real dinosaurs? Are they alive? Why did they die?"
"How far is the moon? When the earth rotates and it's dark on the other side is it winter there?"

On our walk home from school a few days ago, he tells me how his schools compare. " at [his] old school moms could go inside and pick kids up whenever they got there, but at this school you can only leave when the teacher wants you to."

He is a wicked smart kid, that's for sure.

Cloudy and cloudy dog

Every day he's becoming a little more smarter, braver, vocal, mobil.
He's taking 3-4 steps before he sits. He loves climbing the slide
We are starting to hear words, not just squawking. Today at 11:00 he
looks at me and says EAT. Guess he realized it was lunch time - I
sure didn't.

Stepping stones

We made the boys their stepping stones last week. Ben wanted a turtle
and I figured it was appropriate for cloudy to have a cloud this yr.
It sorta sets me on my heels when I see all 5 of Bens. :/

Camping with the Kendalls part 25

All summer weve enjoyed camping with the Kendall family. And this weekend was no different. Dave smoked a pork shoulder on Friday, and when we arrived - we feasted! Smoked pork, broccoli salad, potato salad, beans, dutchoven cornbread, TOFFEE BARS, MOLASSES COOKIES, OATMEAL CRAISIN COOKIES and BANANA PUDDING. We feasted again Saturday for lunch, and Saturday for supper.
OYE the food! The skiing! The FUN!

Jon Jon Success!

Jenn here -- I've been a little obsessed with sewing lately. I think I've created 6 pillow cases in the past week. They're fun and easy - but for some reason I thought I would try making a Jon Jon for Cloudy. I lucked out and found a pattern on SUPER SALE. My first Jon Jon turned out too large (Its adorable - so I'll keep it till next summer!).
Take 2 - Jon Jon FITS! and is SUPER ADORABLE! I already have another one cut and ready for the machine (and fabric purchased for a third!)

Ben had his second day of school today - He was so excited we can barely get him to eat breakfast. Today his highlight was eating in the cafeteria. We no longer send lunch money with kids to school, today we put money in an online lunch money account and the account records when he eats lunch. I guess this stops the good old days of being bullied out of your lunch money.

Pictures from Ben's first day of school... (first 1/2 day, first rainy school day)
Ben was so nervous he barely ate breakfast. And when we were walking to the school house, he thought it was weird that everyone had backpacks. As he sat in he class line in the cafeteria - Little Layla (our neighbor), who is in first grade, was sitting next to him. He was so distracted talking to her that when his class got up to go to their room, he was left behind (I was nice enough to save him though). So on the first day of school, b/f school even started Ben's talking is already causing trouble.

At his desk

Schools out for the day! YAY.. too bad its raining..
He loved school, and is stoked about going all day tomorrow (wander how long THAT will last... 5-6 years??)

Last day of freedom...

Today was Ben's OFFICIAL LAST DAY of freedom... for the next THIRTEEN (lets hope not more) years.

Tuesday, August 17th (Aunt Laura's 30TH birthday) is Ben's first day of Kindergarten. Today we met Wes and Wes' mom (Nikki) at the zoo. We had a great time hanging out with them (as always)! Clouds was a little miffed for a while, but finally crashed out in the Cloudy-pack.

This evening we walked to the schools open house to meet the teachers. Afterward, we drove up to pick up Ben's very own alarm clock (we need all the help we can get around here).

I really thought Ben needed a special backpack for Kindergarten... but unwilling to pay $50+ on a BACKPACK - I decided an $8 special with a little sewing would have to do the trick (for now).
Ben L.O.V.E.S. it (and that's what really matters)

r/c fun

The other day we walked down to the creek.....

So the boys could play with Bens r/c cars....

he has one that can go from land to water... but really its more like land to puddle...
Cloudy and I were chillin under the bridge..

As I was brushing my teeth the boys were playing in my room. Next
thing I know Clouds is screaming mad. I look around the corner and
Ben is hightailing it out of the room.
I wasn't getting any answers from Ben, so I asked the obvious - "did
you hit Cloudy with his raffi?". Ben had a blank look on his face -
but Cloudy piped up nice and clear with a YES.. I think ben and I
were both in shock, because Clouds doesn't talk.

I feel the earth move...

Ben's FINALLY feeling better. He got dressed this morning and even asked for food. ALL GOOD SIGNS.. I even took him on a short excursion to the post, bank and store. Only had to make one mad dash. YAY ben.
Hes only allowed starches for today - so lots of bread and mashed taters for him. (I was surprised when MY kid was unfamiliar with mashed potatoes - WHO KNEW?)

While we were out - he tells me he feels the earth rotate. Wouldn't that be wild to feel the earth rotate?
He also told me that it was "time to break your head open" when a firetruck drove past us with lights and sirens on. I guess if there was ever a good time to crack a head open it WOULD be when an EMT truck was near.

Cloudy on the other hand, found his "junk". And like all boys, he's fascinated, he won't move his hands in the tub or while I'm changing his diaper. It's all down hill from here!

Clicking Cloudy

Pete swears we could communicate with Cloudy if we would just count the clicks....

Ben's still not better.. he was briefly feeling well on tue/wed but around midnight all chaos broke loose. After 12 hrs of debilitating stomach cramps and a little boy moaning, err screaming, I called the dr and they got us an appt 15 min later. Ben almost didn't make it to the office without.. well.. YOU KNOW.. could've been a huge disaster.. Poor kid.
He's mortified if we are in the bathroom with him when he 'blows'.. MORTIFIED... and even though I KNOW he's in severe pain.. it's still kinda funny with every toot(b/c it's not me after all). So when I giggle he screams louder for me to go away - it's a vicious cycle at the house right now.

The egg hatched

Ben's dinosaur egg hatched... b/f he would touch it - he asked me (just in case) if it was real... So I couldn't resist to growl when he stuck his fingers in the cup the first several times.. He scolded me properly and I quit... it was pretty funny though.

On a side note - Ben hasn't started out being 5 on a great note. He's been S.I.C.K. for the past two days... like not move UNLESS... sick... poor kiddo. It was his last week of pre-k too. Hoping he's better tomorrow.

5 4 3 2 1 and new

time flies when you're having fun... I teared up thinking how much he's grown in 5 yrs and I can already see the 16yr old around the corner.

Happy Birthday Benjamin

WOW! What a weekend! It was almost as crazy as the weekend 5yrs ago.. or 11 yrs ago...
We started out Thursday night camping, it was Matt's last day of work and his mom and sister drove up to take him home. We forced everyone to go camping and play at the lake for a few days. The Kendall's were out camping, and we had a group full... it was lots of fun and NEVER enough hrs of daylight. We enjoyed watching Jenn Jr show her mad skillz on the wakeboard, and the Matt attempt his huge jumps... but MOSTLY BEN KNEEBOARDED! He saw our old kneeboard out at storage and asked to take it to the lake... Since we had two - we went 2 up behind the boat and it was SO MUCH FUN with Ben, that Jenn Jr rode with me.. and then Matt with Pete. Seriously what a change and we had entirely too much fun.
I somehow managed to throw a cake together Saturday when we got home (its a shark - that looks like a whale with a stroke).. but it tastes great - and Ben thought it was amazing. We had a family party Saturday night, since everyone was leaving Sunday morning. Ben received a new PAIR of skis from us, and was thrilled but in the same breath said "But I really wanted a wakeboard" **insert AWWW and sad mommy **
And this morning after playing with all his new toys, he turns and says - whens my party? UH HELLO! You've had 2 already... sheesh.
But he did have a mini party tonight with us and the Stevens women. The girls came over to wish Ben happy birthday -- they gave him a dinosaur egg that "hatches"... we put it in water and it already started to crack... I honestly didn't think Ben was going to move... he just stared at that egg... I expect it to be the first thing he does tomorrow morning.. I'll let you know what/when it hatches.

Below are more pictures of our wickedly wild weekend.. (We miss Matt)
