New Hat for cloudy.

Here's cloudy's new hat... I started out with intentions of creating a Christmas/Santa-style stocking cap...

But this hat refuses to lay down or flop over, it just sticks straight up.

It makes us giggle; we think he makes an adorable elf.
(as long as we don't let his ears poke out - then he looks like dopey from the 7 dwarf...)

Ben gets jealous if the camera comes out and he's not included. So here's a picture of him, too.

Quick quip for the day

Quick quip for the day

Pete yelled at Bailey this evening - and before he could finish I
heard Ben chime in with "Bailey be good or you're going to go to heaven"
Not quite what pete had in mind.

MERRY Christmas

Yesterday we had a major snow storm move through, Pete was disappointed because churches started announcing cancellations. Fortunately the Lutheran church (less than 1 mile up the road) was having all their services. When we left the snow wasn't too terrible, but some time overnight it got ugly outside. We had drifts 3 ft in our yard, worse in the  drive and side-walks we had to shovel.

Here's Pete digging us out:

Yesterday afternoon - Pete was on a conference call for work and just when he had to un-mute - I started yelling at Ben. I mean YELLING at th e child. "NO NO NO NO NO" and stomping might've been included.
reason: a few moments earlier he walked up to me and said "When I was younger I saw a light saber and spiderman scooter..." That's all that needed to come out of his mouth b/f I turned, jaw dropped, and started screaming.
reason: a few minutes earlier I had gone in to Cloudy's room to store a few gifts... and over on the side of the bed might've been an area where (for some dumb reason) Pete and I thought would be a 'secure' area to hide gifts from the kid.  I walked out and left the door open..

Ben had gone in the room and obviously found the loot.
Fortunately the light saber wasn't the one he was getting anyway (his was already wrapped and under the tree from Uncle Tank and Aunt Tammy - Thanks guys he loves it!). And the scooter he didn't receive b/c it had a 40lb weight limit and our little monster is there already. Not sure what else he saw.. but we made sure not to label any of the ones he might have seen as from Santa - who was SUPER Cool to Ben this year.

Cloudy slept through opening the socks and presents, and when he did wake up, I guess he was upset he missed it...

Thanks to everyone for the great cards and gifts.  We had a Merry Christmas, hope you did too!

Another week down

First "sounds like" words:
A few years ago (4 actually), we were feeding baby Ben some green beans and while he was fussing random sounds he clearly said "I don't want any". We joke that those were Ben's first words.
Today when we were planning on walking out the door Clouds clearly fussed the words "I'm hungry". Which is funny bc if you've seen/held this kid you would know there's no way he's going hungry.

Since thanksgiving we've been excited about our traditional trek to the tree farm for our Christmas tree. This year we decided to wait until we returned from Texas before heading out there. Saturday we finally had time in daylight and before walking out the door Pete double checked the place online only to find out they closed on the 13th (just like every other tree farm in town). Not wanting to buy a tree from walmart or home depot we ventured out and found the boy scout tent that had six trees left. Sad sad trees. When we noticed Justin was selling the trees (our local favorite boyscout) we decided why not. And the great salesman that justin is, he sold us a tree in seconds. But gave it to us for about 40% off. The boyscout REALLY like their trees!

We came home and Ben helped me put up the lights and he decorated the tree with ornaments. Then we started assembling our gingerbread houses. Ben decorated a wonderful house with assistance from pete while I kept occupied creating a popup camper (with help from pete).

Sunday afternoon we finished up our houses and went sledding! I wore a Santa hat and Ben thought I needed to take it off so everyone would know that I wasn't Mrs Clause. On the way back to the house I did get honked at and everyone in the car was waving... maybe that says something about my butt size..

Below is a link to a few pictures of last week.

Christmas School Program

Tonight was the school program and even after being out of class for a two weeks during practice time, Ben still did a great job singing with his class.
They sang: Silver Bells, I saw Mommy Kissing Santa, and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
Since he was out last week we didn't know they were wearing hats, and unfortunately the teacher brought spares and he had to wear this ridiculous white cap over his gorgeous brown brown hair.

We found the line of camcorders along the wall a little humorous.

Christmas Trip

We made it home from our Christmas trip to Texas.
It was great to see everyone, but it feels wonderful to be home! Even if it is 8 degrees outside.

Thanks to everyone for putting up with us; It was great to see all of you.

A few stories from the trip:
- After breakfast at the hotel we were going to check out the pool when Ben decided he needed to use the 'facilities'. Pete took him to the nearest and Ben started making 'big ones'... Pete gasped out of surprise (thinking if he would have known he would've taken the boy back to the room). Ben sees him gasp and says "You don't have to!"
Pete: " I don't have to what?"
Ben: "Panic. I'm almost done."

- At the Fish Fry on Saturday, Ben was telling everyone that we've been gone so long he forgot what his room looked like. And sure enough on Sunday when we got home the first thing he wanted to do was go check out his room.

- At a rest stop on the way home, Ben was again using the facilities, and dawdling as usual. Pete told him, "Hurry up and take care of your business so we can get out of here and go home."
Ben: "No daddy! I don't have 'business'. Only you and mommy have 'business'!"
