Things to blog about

Cloudys feet get clammy, and when we were changing his clothes pete decided to put a little baby powder on his feet. Afterwards he looks at the label and it reads "Pure cornstarch" to which he remarks: of course - it makes toe jam gravy!

Trista came over to practice piano and Ben was telling her all about Santa. She was shocked Ben already saw him and asked Ben where. Ben said "the Santa place - you know where that is". Like it was the coffee shop on the corner. It was pretty funny to hear it come out of his mouth.

Today while Pete and I were busy with Christmas decorations, Pawpaw helped Ben write a list to Santa. His very first list to write.

The past few nights Ben has woke up in the wee hrs and came to our room. He claims he's scared from the creepy noises he hears in his room. The creepy noise : his pawpaw snoring in the next room over.

MOST IMPORTANT THING THAT HAPPENED TODAY: Ben read his night book TO ME! He really enjoys reading and we've been working with him and his 'sight words' when we read other books. But he can read this one ALL BY HIMSELF! So PROUD..

Is the weekend over yet? I'm exhausted!

A few pictures from the other night -- Pete with Clouds in the Bjorn and the jacket zipped around both of them.. Cloudy looks like a strange growth coming out of Pete's chest..

Today we walked down (Ben rode his bike) to one of the many cool parks near us.. and Ben ran into a friend from school. Cason asked Ben - "When are you coming back to school?" it was sweet to see he was missed this week. He stayed home to hang out with Pawpaw.

Tonight Pete was amazing as always - and grilled up some steaks for supper. Afterward this is what I found.... Hot dog anyone?

Hiking and Holiday lights

We had fantastic weather today! We took a little trip to Schramm Park and hiked a few miles. While out there we picked up a few geocaches and had a picnic lunch.
Ben found one of his 'unloved' stuff animals and took it on the hike with us. He jammed the bear down his jacket - simulating the Bjorn carrier that Cloudy rides in. He kept telling us what his 'baby bear' was doing - and it seemed eery that that bear did all the things that Cloudy had just done.
This evening was the Papillion Holiday Festivities. We rode the carriage - (this year we got Turbo, last yr we had Elvis; Elvis was there - we were just one spot too early in line to ride Elvis' carriage), we saw Santa, we sat in for Story Time at the Library, enjoyed the bon fire, hot chocolate and popcorn.
Oh what a day!
Wonder what's in store for tomorrow? Ben's already talking about what park he wants to go to.

Thanksgiving 2009

We started the day by running a 5k "Turkey Trot". This particular one is a benefit for the foodbank, so we felt good about both burning some calories and donating a couple dozen cans of food as our entry fee..

After that we prepared for the turkey slaughter. Well, actually we bought it
pre-slaughtered, we only had to cook it. We deep-fried it as usual, and it turned out pretty decent.. We also had the usual homemade rolls, sausage dressing, and creamed onions. We skipped the green-bean-casserole-mush, and just had green beans. All was YUMMMY.

We then went for a couple mile walk out to one of the playgrounds to burn off some steam, and chased Ben around the playground several times; "Last one to the slide's a rotten egg!!!" We left the park just in time to walk home before dark, take a pee break, and load up to go to the Omaha holiday lights festival. We had hot chocolate and saw them turn on all the Christmas lights.... then came home to eat caramel-apple-cheesecake and turkey sandwiches..

Now we're trying to catch up on the football games recorded earlier.. and maybe we'll eat desert again...

Hope your Thanksgiving was as enjoyable as ours! Happy Thanksgiving!

Candon Ball!!!

Some kid at school taught Ben to yell "cannon ball" when you jump off things. (Which all, well most, of us have done.) Except the kid taught him wrong and now I have Ben jumping off beds and running around corners yelling "candon ball!!"

Find a Penny....

Ben and I were walking down the aisle in Kohls yesterday, headed back to find Mom and Clouds after taking Ben to the potty...
Ben reaches bends down and picks up a penny, which he proudly hands to me, "Dad, look what I found!".

I told him, "Find a penny, pick it up... and all day you'll have good luck!"

But what I was really thinking was: "Find a penny, pick it up...  and all day you'll wonder if you just picked up the H1N1 germs..."

Camping in NOVEMBER??!!

I know - It sounds CRAZY! But we went camping in NEBRASKA in NOVEMBER. Crazy stuff let me tell ya. Pete says I have to call it 'RVing' and not camping since we watched tv (we watched the NE vs OU game).
The weather was wonderful - the company was ok.. and the camping was a blast.
It started out like it was going to be a painful trip. We arrived at the camper to find a flat tire (and the spare had no air). So after some rock kicking and wrench throwing - Pete fixed everything and then had the tire repaired. The place (Square Tire) did it for free too.

Ben mastered the art of tree climbing and fishing pole casting (well maybe not "mastered" but well enough for a 4yr old). Sam enjoyed camping for the most part, but wasn't too fond of daylight savings time being over, and not being able to see what was going on around the campfire...

What a great way to enjoy the 70-plus degree November weather!

Gorgeous Sunday

It was ridiculously nice today. 70s!!
We went out to one of the state parks and hiked the trails. We had a picnic lunch by the pond and more hiking. Drove to another park for (you guessed it) MORE hiking. Ben was such a trooper too - he only started complaining around mile 5 or 6 - not too bad for a 4yr old.

Now we're off to the local park to play at the playground.. Not too many days like this left before winter - we have to take full advantage.
